Memorial Day Weekend

We made our first long-distance trip as a family of three to Charleston, S.C. last week. We had a great time visiting with Clay's great grandparents and other family members from Rob's side of the family. We also stopped by my parents' house for a night on the way there and the way back. It was Clay's first trip to a beach and he wasn't sure what to think of it. He ended up getting sand in his little leg rolls which made him a little bit grouchy. (I can't blame him, poor little guy.) Overall, it was a really fun mini-vacation, but Rob and I returned home very tired. Caring for a six-month old away from home gets exhausting after a few days!

Here are some highlights from our trip:

6 Months of Fun

Clay is six months old and just a barrel of fun! He enjoys spitting, laughing, hugging, babbling, screeching, jumping, smiling, kicking, splashing, sitting up and grabbing everything in sight. However, he does not enjoy teething. At the time of this posting, he does not have any teeth, but I don't think it will be long now!

He can sit up all by himself which is a very recent development. After a couple of minutes, he gets tired and slumps over to one side. So, we have to stay close by to "catch" him.

He is eating more solid foods: sweet potatoes, pears, peas (although he's not sure he likes them), oatmeal, and rice cereal. He also LOVES his sippy cup. He would drink out of it for 20 minutes at a time if we would let him.

At his six-month checkup on May 19th, he weighed 17 lbs., 10 oz. (54th percentile), he was 70 cm. long (78th percentile), and his head circumference was 45 cm. (86th percentile). He has a large noggin!

He sleeps about ten or eleven hours each night which has been wonderful for me and Rob. We're having lots of fun and look forward to each new day with our little peanut!

I think it's easy to see how much Clay loves his Jumperoo. But, really, what's not to love?

A Sunny Sunday

Yesterday was such a nice day - sunny, warm, and breezy with very low humidity. So, we decided to get some work done outside. Rob trimmed the hedges along the driveway and I pulled some weeds from our flower bed. Clay supervised. He was most impressed with Rob's handling of the hedge trimmer.

Mother's Day

My first "real" Mother's Day was wonderful! I had the privilege of seeing both my mom and my mother-in-law, and I received the royal treatment from Rob and Clay. They gave me a BEAUTIFUL fresh-water pearl necklace and a gift certificate for a massage. Perfect!

Michael, Shay, and Caden gave me this gorgeous hydrangea in celebration of my first Mother's Day. They are such sweeties!

Steeplechase a/k/a Mudchase

Steeplechase was on Saturday, May 9th. It was a blast, as always! Although, because Nashville has been inundated with rain the past few weeks, the grounds were extremely muddy. Mud was everywhere and it got on everyone. It was a pretty dramatic day overall. The day started out with thunderstorms and flash flooding around Middle Tennessee. There was tons of traffic that became worse due to the mud, we almost ran out of gas while sitting in all the traffic, and then we had to walk through thick, sticky mud up to the track. Oh, and when we were leaving our vehicle almost became stuck in the mud. Rob did a great job dislodging us before we sank too deep!

Despite all of the above, it ended up being a beautiful day. (Rob even got a sunburn.) So much fun, fun, fun!
