Sometimes taking a blog break is good. It gives me time to focus on other things and it also gives me time to relax and do nothing when Clay is taking a nap. (Even though most of the time I end up doing laundry, dishes, or catching up on email instead of chilling out.) But, I've missed blogging and I'm happy to be back. Speaking of Clay, he turned 18 months old yesterday!
He is starting to climb everything possible and his vocabulary is rapidly expanding. His favorite word in the whole world is "puppy" pronounced "uppy" (the 'p' is silent.) He also likes saying, "what", "out", "up", "apple", "coffee", "ball", and "hot". Everything is "hot" even if it's just cold or it has a strange texture. He will say "HOT!" and quickly pull his hand away. It cracks me up. Oh, he can also identify your eyes, nose, mouth, and hair. When he says "eyes", it sounds like "eythes." He has a slight lisp when he says that word. He calls sunglasses "eythes" too. He is so funny.
Clay enjoys eating waffles for breakfast. He calls waffles "wa, wa" and every now and then he will say "wabble". So, he is getting closer to saying it correctly. He has put words into sentences as well. His first sentence was "I waaaaannnntttt that!" pointing to some macaroni and cheese on the stove. One time he even said, "I can't do it!" while trying to open the front door. His sentences are few and far between, but they are so cute.
Clay LOVES playing outside. He will pick flowers (even the ones deliberately planted in my flower beds and flower pots.) He also picks up rocks, sticks, and even bugs. He always seems to find the worst things to put in his mouth. For example, dead bug wings. Yuck. We spend lots of time walking around the yard together. Sometimes I can even sit and read the newspaper while he wanders around picking up little treasures. (Ah, bliss.)
The past few weeks have been really busy for me. The first Saturday in May Parents Reaching Out held its biggest fundraiser "A Day at the Derby." Being a board member and a member of the committee meant I spent numerous hours preparing for the party and also attending it. We knew it was going to be a rainy day as we were setting up, but we had no idea it was going to be a weekend we would never forget. It rained and rained all day Saturday and almost the entire day on Sunday. Nashville experienced so much flooding and heartache that weekend. It is hard to even comprehend. I feel so fortunate that we had no real water problems in our house and yard. In fact, we never even lost power or cable.
The next weekend was Steeplechase and the weather could not have been more perfect. It was a wonderful day!
There's more to come soon....
